Tallahatchie County Excel By 5

The Tallahatchie Early Learning Alliance (TELA) collaborates for quality childhood education in Tallahatchie County, Mississippi. WHAT WE DO:

PREK COLLABORATIVE

In 2014, we became one of the first communities to receive Early Learning Collaborative funding from the state of Mississippi. With the support of state funds, we work to ensure that all 4-year-old children in Tallahatchie County have access to high-quality pre-K programs. We provide backbone support to our four educational provider partners:

  West Tallahatchie Head Start Center

  •   Eva Covington Head Start Center

  •   East Tallahatchie School District

  •   West Tallahatchie School District

OUR SUPPORT FOR THE PREK COLLABORATIVE INCLUDES:

  • Professional Development

  • Compliance Management

  • Facilitation Collaboration

  • Early Childhood Educational Resources

COLLECTIVE IMPACT INITIATIVE

TELA operates as the backbone of the county's collective impact process. This process involves people working together toward our shared goals of supporting children’s health, quality early education, and connected communities in our county. As the backbone organization, we guide vision and strategy, establish shared measurement, support aligned activities, cultivate community engagement and ownership, advance policy, and mobilize resources for the groups with whom we work.

SPRINGBOARD COLLABORATIVE

Closes the literacy gap by closing the gap between home and school. We coach educators and family members to help kids learn to read by the 4th grade. Springboard envisions a world where all children have the requisite literacy skills to access life opportunities.

“We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. It's easy to say "It's not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem." Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes.”
