Indianola is proud to be an Excel By 5 Certified Early Childhood Community!

Our goal is to improve a child’s overall well-being by age five. Indianola Excel by 5 provides a variety of activities involving public outreach in education, child care, safety, and health through community events and parent training opportunities. We are working with a team of educators and community leaders to help make Indianola a more nurturing, safer environment for our children.

Indianola Promise Community: Cradle to Career Initiative

The Indianola Promise Community (IPC) is a community-led initiative unique to the Delta, which offers programs that touch the lives of people in Indianola by improving access to quality healthcare, providing programs for early childhood development and literacy, and addressing the social needs of children and adolescents, as well as their families. The goal of IPC is to build a continuum of programs that will blanket Indianola with programs that cover significant unmet needs of children from prenatal care to college preparation, focusing specifically on health care, adult literacy, early childhood development, parenting, after-school tutoring, healthy lifestyles, and social needs for children and teens.

Services include, but are not limited to:

In-Home Visitations - Trained staff provide visitations to help improve prenatal care and the health and development of children.

Free Books - Free books are provided monthly for children and their parents, ages birth to five.

College and Career Courses - Programs dedicated to providing college and career preparedness courses.

Literacy Programs - Special classes geared toward helping students achieve higher literacy.

Behavioral Support - Parenting and family support initiatives to prevent and treat behavioral and emotional problems in children and teenagers.

Summer Camps - Summer Camps seek to provide innovative opportunities that support youth vocabulary and reading enhancement during the summer when school is not in session.

Delta Futures Teen Pregnancy Prevention Program - This program focuses on pre-conceptional health, risk reduction, the importance of delaying pregnancies to improve infant health, and development awareness.

“We live in a world in which we need to share responsibility. It's easy to say "It's not my child, not my community, not my world, not my problem." Then there are those who see the need and respond. I consider those people my heroes.”
