In 2018, Duncan became a Certified Excel By 5 Community! We are dedicated to improving the built environment, making it a safe and nurturing place for young children. The Duncan Excel By 5 community coalition continues working alongside the Duncan Community Health Council on several community projects to sustain our child-friendly community designation.


About Duncan, MS: Duncan, Mississippi, “The Best Little Town in the Mississippi Delta,” is a small populated community of 542 residents.  The community is located in north Bolivar County.  The North Bolivar Consolidated School District serves the community.  The District Elementary School, which houses Pre-K through 6th grade, is located in Duncan, MS (Brooks Elementary School).  Save the Children sponsors programs through Brooks Elementary School, including Literacy Development, Healthy Nutrition, and the Foster Grandparent Program.  In 2012, Duncan received the Healthy Hometown Award sponsored by Blue Cross Blue Shield.  The Town was awarded funding to improve the Health Environment for children and adults living in the community.


We promote:

  • Community and school health policies and programs

  • Healthy eating and physical activity

  • Tobacco-free lifestyles

  • Parental and community involvement

  • Early literacy development
